Starting at the age of 4, Captain Dan has been on the water; first on inland lakes in Wisconsin, than on Lake Michigan, and now the Atlantic Coast and Chesapeake Bay.
Here he grew up in the tradition of classic wooden run-a-bouts before the introduction of fiberglass construction. Dan raced Chicago to Mackinaw IOR, as well as ILYA on Melges scows, from 20’ M20s to 38’ A class Scows. For relaxation he shared ownership in a 26’ Bristol designed sloop that was transported from Lake Geneva, WI to Virginia Beach for enjoyment on the Chesapeake
Bay.
After college Captain Dan was in charge of the 58’ Grand Banks Trawler “Scarlet Cloud” Tiburon, CA. As Captain, there were
frequent voyages using Loran A and RDF to the Hawaiian Islands, Marina Del Ray and Catalina Island, and the Baja Peninsula to Cabo San Lucas.
Dan lived aboard his own 36 cruiser in Miami and traveled the Florida Keys, Biscayne Bay, and the Bahamas. He has made numerous trips up and down the ICW. He has lived in
Virginia Beach for over 20 years.
