“Jungle Jim” is moored in Lynnhaven Inlet, on the southernmost shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Lynnhaven Inlet is approximately 2 miles west of Cape Henry Light, the first lighthouse commissioned by George Washington to mark the entrance into the Chesapeake Bay.
An engineering marvel connects the Delmarva Peninsula and the “Eastern Shore” of Virginia with Virginia Beach; the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. This 17 mile long structure provides one of the best habitats on the East Coast of the United States for fish. Virginia Beach is world famous for its Striped Bass fishery. The Striped Bass travel the coast of the USA as the seasons change, and enjoy the bait fish and warmer water that the Chesapeake Bay offers. This phenomenon attracts the whole food chain to the waters of Cape Henry. The Annual Virginia Beach striped bass tournament attracts boats and fishermen from around the world. Captain Dan took placed second place in this international tournament in 2005. He brought over $6,000.00 in winnings to the “Team Jungle Jim” for distribution among the anglers.
The big game fisheries offered by seamounts are between 30 and 60 miles offshore. Yellow Fin Tuna are the target during the summer, and often are joined by Wahoo, white and blue marlin.
“Jungle Jim” offers the opportunity to fish a half day Bay or Near Coastal Charter, allowing a run out to the Chesapeake Light, where Spade fish congregate during that season. A half day allows for a nice opportunity to experience fishing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel area as well as the shoals and flats inside the bay.
A Full Day off shore Big Game fishing trip will have us running and fishing for approximately 12 hours. This is not for the faint of heart, as we will be running up to 70 miles offshore to get to the 100 fathom line.
